Journey management
Journey management is the regulated discipline of confirming that a worker has safely arrived at and departed from a remote work site.
What it means in oilfield operations
In oilfield work, journey management exists because the work happens in places cellular coverage does not. A crew leaves a yard in Grande Prairie at 5:30am for a lease site two hours north. Between the yard and the lease, there is one stretch of road with no signal, two stretches with intermittent signal, and a turnoff that is not on the operator's map. If the truck does not arrive when it should, someone needs to know within minutes, not at the end of the shift. Energy Safety Canada, the AER, and the BCER all expect operators to have a written journey management plan, qualified drivers, and a check-in schedule. The cost of getting it wrong is not a fine, it is a missing crew.
How HitchGuardian uses this
HitchGuardian verifies the journey plan is in place before dispatch. It qualifies the worker for the route by checking driver certifications and route-specific qualifications. It signs off on the assignment only when both the qualification and the journey plan clear. During the trip it tracks scheduled check-ins from the yard to the lease and back. When a check-in is missed, it flags the dispatcher before the customer calls.
