Hotshot dispatch

Hotshot dispatch is the urgent, often same-day or next-day movement of tools, equipment, or crew to a lease site, typically outside the regular hitch rotation and scheduled dispatch flow.

What it means in oilfield operations

In oilfield service work, hotshot means something needs to move now. A downhole tool broke on a completions job and the replacement is in a yard 300 kilometers away. A crew needs a pressure gauge that did not make it onto the original truck. A customer calls at 2 PM and needs a hand on a lease by 6 AM tomorrow. Hotshot dispatch follows a different pattern than regular crew rotations. There is no time to run through the normal scheduling process. The coordinator grabs whoever is available, loads the truck, and sends it. That urgency is exactly where qualification gaps slip through. The driver may not have the right tickets for the destination. The worker pulled off days may not have renewed an expired cert. The journey plan may not exist because no one had time to file one. Hotshot dispatch is where the gap between planning and execution is widest, and where the cost of sending an unqualified crew is highest because there is no time to recover.

How HitchGuardian uses this

HitchGuardian runs the same verification on hotshot assignments that it runs on scheduled dispatch. When a coordinator builds a last-minute crew, the system checks certifications, availability, and journey requirements before clearing the assignment. The check takes seconds, not the 15-minute phone chain that the coordinator would otherwise need to run on a compressed timeline.
